Maintenance Requirements for SJS Canopies

It is important for regular maintenance to be completed on your Fibreglass Canopy to ensure longevity of the product.

There are some simple requirements that are recommended to complete - including but not limited to the following;

  • Regular cleaning of the canopy with a non-abrasive automotive wash
  • Thorough cleaning after the vehicle has been taken offroad i.e. beach to ensure all abrasives are removed from the product.
  • Canopy is waxed & polished quarterly to maintain any painted surface. Using a non-abrasive product recommended for use on Fibreglass material.
  • Check & re-tighten the clamps & bolts securing the canopy. This is required once a month for the first 3 months after installation and at 5000km intervals thereafter. The canopy is fitted in the ideal position for functionality & is required to stay in this location. Increasing frequency when travelling offroad and on corrugations.
  • Regularly check fasteners that are fixing windows, doors & locks securely. Increasing frequency when travelling offroad and on corrugations.
  • Lubricate hinges as required
  • Actuator plate should be lubricated quarterly to ensure smooth operation and longevity of the locking system. This is located behind the internal, central door cover. We recommend using a white lithium grease.
  • Regularly check any roof rack fasteners & associated attachments. Increasing inspection frequency when travelling off road and on corrugations (more information below)
  • Whereby internal reinforcing is fitted to increase carrying capacity ensure the internal bolts & fixings are checked regularly, increasing with off road use i.e. daily checks.
  • External plastics & rubbers can be protected with a silicone based spray.
  • Locks should be treated with graphite powder as required.
  • Hinges should be maintained with light grease or suitable lubricant when required.
  • Sliding window tracks should be cleaned of debris regularly.

DO NOT:

  • Travel with your windows or doors left in the open position
  • Drive with unsecured loads
  • Overload the canopy roof tracks; the SJS Canopy has a 100kg carrying capacity, evenly distributed, on sealed roads. This is reduced to 70kgs when travelling offroad.
  • Fit products such as a roof top tent or any free standing awning to the canopy without an approved internal support system fitted.

Canopy Load Rating

The SJS Canopy is rated to take loads of up to 100kg on sealed roads, with the appropriate roof racks fitted. The rating decreases to 70kg when off road.

The load is required to be evenly distributed across the racking system.

For items such as (but not limited to) a roof top tent or free standing awning an approved internal support system is required. Without an approved internal support system this will void the warranty.

Roof Racks

Whereby the SJS Canopy is fitted with the approved internal support system & compatible roof racks the dynamic load rating is increased to 150kg for evenly distributed loads.

You are responsible for completing a weekly check of all bolts, mounting points & fixings to check they are secure. We recommend checking all fixings more frequently when travelling off-road.

Glass

The canopy is fitted with tempered, toughened glass and is suitable for use in a canopy. While the canopy is fitted with proven materials this does not exclude the glass from being damaged or to breakages caused by impact.

The glass is designed to shatter into small pieces which is to prevent the likelihood of injury occurring. Should the impact be significant the glass may immediately shatter. However there is also the potential for the glass to have a delayed breakage. This ‘spontaneous’ shattering is likely due to an earlier impact whether from an internal item, stone chips or other impact or scraping against the glass.

Changes in temperature can then adversely affect the glass with the defect / chip and cause the glass to shatter after original impact.

We suggest regularly inspect the glass to identify any chips or breakages as soon as possible. Never use hard or abrasive materials to clean your canopy.

If required ensure the gas struts are exchanged for a like-for-like item (correct length & pressure).

Glass is not covered under warranty. We suggest adding the canopy to your vehicle insurance to cover accidental breakages.
